Morningstar Marinas was the Primary Sponsor for Derrick Cope’s #64 Toyota race car at the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Showdown & All-Star Race in Charlotte on May 20th. With three marinas in the Charlotte area and numerous marina customers in the racing industry, including drivers, we felt it was a perfect partnership. Unfortunately, on the second lap of the race a Landon Cassill spun out, hit the wall and then slid down the track right in front of Cope’s car. Cope t-boned Cassill’s car and both cars were retired to the pits; neither driver was injured in the crash. Team owner Larry Gunselman provided tickets to the race including pit passes, and Morningstar was given a behind-the-scenes, all-access pass to the incredible world of NASCAR!
